Government InformationCanada - Federal Laws and Regulations Information on how to contact offices, services, and individuals in the Ontario government. This site allows you to search Ontario government websites for services using key words. Ontario Government Publications The Ontario Seniors' Secretariat influences and supports policy development across all government activities on behalf of Ontario's seniors. The website includes A Guide to Programs and Services for Seniors in Ontario, this comprehensive Guide to government, health and social services is available in print or on-line Seniors Policies and Programs Database Gives you access to policies and programs for seniors at all levels of government across Canada. You can do a search based on the level of government (municipal, provinicial, or federal) and the particular province or municipality. Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) LHINs were created in 2006 by the government of Ontario. The 14 LHINs are not-for-profit corporations that plan, integrate and fund health care services in their geographic area. LHINs oversee several services, including: hospitals, community health centres, long-term care homes, Community Care Access Centres and mental health and addiction services. Legal InformationCommunity Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) Publishes legal education materials on a variety of topics including social assistance, landlord-tenant issues, immigration, etc. Many CLEO publications may be accessed on-line including the following of special interest to seniors: Care Homes, Every Resident-Bill of Rights for People Who Live in Long-Term Care Facilities, Elder Abuse-The Hidden Crime, Continuing Power of Attorney for Property, Power of Attorney for Personal Care, Home Care Complaints and Appeals, Door to Door Sales: A Consumers Guide, Disability Benefits in Ontario: Who can get them. How to apply. This website also provides links to community legal clinics and community information services throughout Ontario. Provides information about the different court systems in Ontario, including rules, forms, names of judges, and a description of what the court does. Provides information about how to contact the 78 community legal clinics and 48 area offices in Ontario, how to contact legal aid in other provinces, and information about who is eligible for legal aid . Law Commission of Ontario(LCO) The LCO has a mandate to recommend law reform measures to increase the legal system’s relevance, effectiveness and accessibility; to clarify and simply the law; consider technology as a means to enhance access to justice; and stimulate critical debate about law and promote scholarly legal research. The LCO is currently working on a multi-year project called The Law as it Affects Older Adults. |
